Gourmet Girl on a Roll…and a Kao Thai Cuisine Update

I really wish I could post more each week or month, but to be honest with you, who has the time – Unless my job was a full time critic (which I would LOVE ) I do work and have somewhat of a life to lead, so in my spare time I write.

Nevertheless, I do find time each day to read my stats and to see what people are searching for to get to my blog, which is very interesting to say the least.  My stats show me what people want to read about and are looking for – which I guess that is what anyone does that maintains a blog right, I am new at this.

Lately, alot of searches to get to my blog has been from people searching for Kao Thai Cuisine in Savannah GA which I did a review on, check it out!  I have been back for dinner not too long ago and it is not the same I am sorry to say, so I thought this update would be in order.

I am under the understanding that the chef/owner has hired his brother to do all of the cooking and creating.  Personally the food is not up to the par I remember it to be, is capable of being, nor do I believe it should be.

On my last visit I got the Num Tok, which is my favorite appetizer, a Spring Roll and Beef Pad Thai and Chicken Kao Pad (another of my favs). It seemed to me all of the dishes were missing that Va-Va-Va-Voom that these dishes used to have.  Which is very upsetting to me.  The Num Tok was not bursting with flavor that it usually is, the Spring Roll was boring and the Chicken Kao Pad lacked very much chicken and flavor to be honest.

My conclusion to this Kao Update…

What I have learned over the years is when the owner/chef takes his eye off of the ball, meaning his restaurant business, all can be lost in the blink of an eye.  I hope this is just a transition and not a permanent change in the menu.

I also hope all of the searchers for Kao will be satisfied with a wonderful dinner or lunch at a great restaurant that I remember.

If there is a restaurant in Savannah you would like me to review, let me know!! I will make the time!!!

Enjoy!

My New Favorite – Coffee Crusted Beef Tenderloin!! Who would have thought!

~~Gourmet Girl News Flash~~

For some reason in the past 10 years I have turned into one of those people that just don’t eat alot of red meat.  It was never a consious or health decision, I just always choose seafood or chicken – I like it better.  Not that I don’t appreciate a good cut of meat and trust me, a good hamburger every now and then is tasty!! But that is about the extent of it… or it used to be.

Not long ago I would proudly say to myself, “I don’t remember the last time… or anytime for that matter, that I ordered a steak at a restaurant”.  Just hearing me say that sounded odd – even to me!

That now has changed…. Brace yourself, this is a good one!

At one of my favorite restaurants a while back while I was glancing over the seafood entrees, an interesting Beef dish caught my eye.  This was a Coffee Crusted Beef Tenderloin with Creamy Mashed Potatoes and Oyster Mushrooms with an Espresso Cream Sauce!!  I DO love Coffee so it automatically sounded yummy and extremely interesting – I had to try it.

The dish was wonderfully presented on a triangle-shaped plate that was visually exciting and refreshing to see someting other than a round plate!  The Tenderloin was crusted with coffee and cooked to perfection, the mushrooms were silky and sexy and the potatoes were rich, creamy and delicious.  But the sauce…oh! the sauce.  Oh My the Sauce!  This was the best tasting sauce that I have ever tasted.  Sounds kind of strange – coffee and steak – but it is actually the perfect marriage!  Rich and earthy, fantastically delicious, lip-smacking goodness.  This would be good over anything (seriously!), but it was the PERFECT compliment to an outstanding dish!!

Bravo – Bravo – Goes to The New South Cafe for creating an interesting, memorable, fantastic entree that is out of this world !!  Check it out for yourself if you are in Savannah!!
